How to Tune Your Car for Spring

2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Sedan

At the head of spring, chances are you’re up for your next recommended service interval. If you’re unsure of whether you’re due, check your owner’s manual or reach out to the Mercedes-Benz Durham service centre near Toronto in Whitby. In the meantime, take a moment to learn about the signs that your car needs a tune-up and how to spring clean your car. We’ll also cover how to swap your tires out for spring, and why trading out those winter tires for Spring tires may be more important than you think. Be sure to check out our tire specials while you’re here!

1. Check Your Tires

In Canada, winter tires are a necessity due to the thick ice that can accumulate on Markham streets. If you installed winter tires, however, it’s important that you swap those tires out for spring. Spring tires will get you much better fuel economy, be less noisy, and keep you from unnecessarily wearing down your Winter tires when you don’t need them.

We recommend you install Original Mercedes-Benz Tires. These feature run-flat technology that allows you to keep driving on a flat, so you don’t have to worry about putting on a spare and can get to the nearest service centre for replacement. Options include:

  • Original Mercedes-Benz Summer Tires with lower rolling resistance for improved efficiency
  • Original Mercedes-Benz Winter Tires with softer compounds and perfected tread patterning for better traction on snow and ice
  • And much more! Reach out to our parts department for help with navigating Original Mercedes-Benz Tires!

2. Deep Clean Your Car

The first step to performing a proper spring tune-up is to deep clean your car, especially the exterior. This is because your car has been covered in snow and ice, and picked up some street salt along while driving on Oshawa. All of this can quickly rust out your undercarriage and body panels if left unchecked! Take extra care to handwash your car as opposed to taking it through a machine wash, so you can get at those hard-to-reach nooks and crannies. If your car is covered in salt, we recommend removing it with water and baking soda, so you can neutralize it and protect your paint job.

3. Change Wiper Blades and Fluids

Freezing weather can often cause the fluid reservoir for your windshield wipers to crack. Furthermore, snow and ice are hard on the rubber blades of your windshield wipers. If your wipers are leaving streaks, you notice leaks of bluish fluid near your tires, or you’re unable to spray wiper fluid, we recommend changing out the blades, topping off the fluid, or replacing any cracked reservoir you discover.

4. Check Your Battery

One of the major signs your car needs a tune-up is dimming headlights or a slow-to-start ignition. These indicate that your battery needs to be replaced. Winter can be hard on your battery, so it never hurts to add a battery test to your spring tune-up checklist.

5. Change Your Oil

Last but not least, when spring cleaning your car, don’t forget the oil change. After all, this is the lubricant that keeps your engine from overheating and failing, and may just be the single most important item on this list (along with tires, of course).
